Phantom

Typeface Design

The typeface, Phantom, was created keeping my thesis in mind. With that, I wanted to make this typeface a more personal connection, so I decided to design it based off of my soccer cleats in which I currently use. I examined and deconstructed my soccer cleats to see what elements would be the strongest in creating the design. I ended up choosing the bottom of my cleats, which contain different shapes and nubs to help me stick to the ground when playing. I then decided to create a set of rules for myself, which included: Use at least two shapes to create the letter, a soccer field grid determines the height and width (X height), and the letters have to overlap to represent running patterns in soccer.
